Destination in Morocco

Casablanca, the great Atlantic city

The country's economic capital: a modern, busy city, with the Hassan II Mosque set on the edge of the ocean and an Art Deco city centre.

The essentials in 30 seconds
  • The Hassan II Mosque is visited with a guide, at fixed times.
  • Al Boraq links Tangier to Casablanca in about 2 h 10.
  • One day is enough for the essentials.

What to see

The Hassan II Mosque is one of the largest in the world. Its 210-metre minaret can be seen from afar and part of the building juts out over the ocean. Non-Muslim visitors can enter on guided tours.

The city centre keeps many Art Deco buildings around Mohammed V square. The Habous district, built in the 20th century in the style of a medina, is pleasant for strolling and buying pastries.

At the end of the day, the Aïn Diab corniche runs along the ocean with its cafés and beaches.

Getting there from Tangier

It is the easiest destination from Tangier: the Al Boraq high-speed train reaches Casa Voyageurs in about 2 h 10.

When to go

All year round: the ocean tempers the climate. Summer is milder there than inland.

How long to plan

One day, or a stop on the way to Marrakech.
