Rabat, the quiet capital
A calm, well-kept capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, between the ocean and the Bou Regreg river.
- Al Boraq links Tangier to Rabat in about 1 h 20.
- The main sites can be visited on foot and by tram.
- Ideal for a day or a weekend.
What to see
The Hassan Tower, an unfinished 12th-century minaret, faces the Mohammed V Mausoleum: it is the city's best-known esplanade.
The Kasbah of the Udayas overlooks the mouth of the Bouregreg with its white and blue alleys and its Andalusian garden. Further on, the Chellah site combines Roman remains and a Marinid necropolis.
The medina is calmer than those of Fez or Marrakech, which makes it a good place to shop without pressure.
Getting there from Tangier
The Al Boraq high-speed train takes about 1 h 20 from Tangier to Rabat Agdal station.
When to go
All year round. Spring is the most pleasant season.
How long to plan
