Practical guide

Where to stay in Tangier: comparing neighbourhoods

The right neighbourhood depends on how you travel: charm and narrow lanes, or comfort and easy access.

The essentials in 30 seconds
  • Medina and Kasbah: charm, steps and little car access.
  • New town: practical, taxis everywhere, everything on foot.
  • Corniche: hotels facing the bay, further from the medina.

Medina and Kasbah

You stay in guesthouses and riads, often with a roof terrace. You are in the heart of the old city, but the lanes are pedestrian: you have to carry your luggage and climb steps.

New town

Around Boulevard Pasteur you will find classic hotels, cafés and restaurants. It is the simplest choice for a first stay without a car.

Marshan

A quiet residential district west of the Kasbah, close to Café Hafa.

Corniche and bay

The seafront is lined with more recent hotels, near the beach and the station. The medina is reached by taxi or a good walk.
