The essentials in 30 seconds
  • An ideal half-day outing by car.
  • Views of the Spanish coast on a clear day.
  • Beaches and coves on the Mediterranean side.

The coast road

Leaving Tangier eastwards via Malabata, the road follows the coast of the strait. It overlooks coves and beaches, with the Spanish coast opposite. It is one of the most beautiful roads in the region, best driven on a clear day.

Ksar Sghir

This fishing village preserves the remains of an old fortress and a fortified port, witnesses to the long history of the strait, the crossing between Africa and Europe. Its beach and small harbour make it a pleasant stop.

Tips

You need a car or a taxi for this outing. Bring water and protection from the sun and wind. In summer, the beaches fill up at weekends: leave early.
